Phuket town's wonderful Portuguese style buildings. |
One of the major charms of Phuket town are the ancient Sino-Portuguese style buildings
scattered along Thalang Road, Deebuk Road, Yaowarat Road and Phang-nga Road.
"Government House", one of the oldest public buildings, was once used as a
setting in the well known movie "The Killing Fields" Rang Hill, a low hill
located to the north of Phuket town, offers a pleasant view of Phuket town and hillside
sculptural tableaux comprise a Fitness Park. |

commemorates the first metal ore-dredger used in Thailand and Captain Edward Thomas Mile,
the Australian. Phuket Butterfly Garden and Aquarium offer a number of perfect
environments: the lovely butterfly garden, the underwater world of corals, etc. This is
not just an exhibition for public display and education. It is also a serious academic

Major beaches, temples, small islets and botanical gardens are as follows:
The pine-lined Mai Khao Beach (40 kms. from town) is the longest beach.
Each year, from November through February, gigantic sea turtles struggle ashore to lay
their eggs there..
Nai Yang National Park fringed by casuarina trees is an ideal place for
picnics, swimming and snorkeling. It is located to the north-west of the
island 20 minutes from the airport. Phuket Laguna complex of five of the
islands best hotels are located by this beach. Laguna also features a
world class golf course at the Banyan Tree

Surin Beach is the best place for the golden sunset of Phuket but not
swimming due to powerful serf, treacherous undertow and steep beach slope.
Singh Cape with sets of beautiful rock formation is only 1 km. from Surin
Beach. It is recommended for holiday-makers who look for a tranquil surrounding with sun,
sand and sea.
Patong Beach (15 kms. from town) is by far Phuket's most developed beach
and widely known among Thais and foreigners. Patong is one of the best places because of
its natural beauty of white sandy beach, clear turquoise sea, fantastic underwater life
and soft breezes and the availability of a wide range of man-made facilities. Here
vacationers have big choice of accommodation from luxury hotels to palm cottages, a wide
range of restaurants and shops, numerous places of night entertainment and all kinds of
aquasport equipment.
Karon and Kata Beach (20 and 17 kms. respectively from town) are the next
major beaches. Both are impressively long, largely peaceful and eminently suitable for
swimming, snorkelling, sailing, windsurfing and sunbathing.
Nai Harn Beach (1 8 kms. from town), is the place for those who love
peace and quiet, and fronts a
Phromthep Cape marks the southernmost point of Phuket. It is the perfect
place from which to view spectacular sunsets.
Rawai Beach (17 kms. from town) hosts Phuket's best known "Sea Gypsy
Village" The sea-people who earn their living from diving for oyster shells, tin ore,
lobsters, etc. are believed to be of Melanesian descent. Also several restaurants
providing different delicious cuisine's can be found in this area.
The Monument of Thao Thepkrasattri and Thao Srisulthorn was built to commemorate these two
heroines who saved Thalang from Burmese invaders in 1785.
Ton Sai Forest Park. a sonorous cascade in the area of Khao Phra Thaes
Wildlife Park, one of the last remaining jungles in Phuket, teem with various mammals
including bears, porcupines, gibbons, macaques, reptiles, lizards and over 100 bird
