VISA POLICY FOR THAILAND CHANGES

As from 01 October 1998 visitors to Thailand overstaying their visa will have to pay double. The new rate is 200 Baht (about $5) which more than compensates for the 40% fall in currency value since June last year. Also there is a compulsory fee for the first day of overstay. Previously this was overlooked.

Another change for long term residents was also announced. Previously the investors visa of one year in duration was restricted to individuals who have invested 10 million Baht in long-term deposits of businesses. The new figure has been lowered to 3 million baht which is worth around $75,000.
