05 Mar 05. Having just returned from my second Phuket inspection trip in a month I can report that all major tourist resorts on the island are operational and ready to receive guests. Restaurants and bars have been rebuilt with full facilities available. Patong, Kata, Karon are all ok
Naturally the numbers presently visiting are much lower than usual for this peak period. Therefore the island is much less crowded and you may enjoy special deals at this tropical island.

From: Jan 06. A tidal wave caused unprecedented destruction on Patong Beach and other locatons along the westen peninsula (Phuket, Phang-nga, Krabi, Trang, Ranong and Satun were affected to different degrees) and we recommend checking conditions of travel to this area until after March 05
The eastern side of Phuket, Kata, Karon beach ares OK and guests are reporting the usual service and facilities at most hotels.
Other beach locations have been untouched. Koh Samui, Cha-Am, Hua Hin and other locations on the east side of Thailand are fine as is Pattaya and Trat
North, Central, North East, West coast peninsula, Pattaya, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Mae Hong Son, Sukothai and most other popular locations are unaffected by the destruction caused by this natural disaster which struck Thailand on 26 December 04
