Attractions of Chiang Mai - Northern Thailand

The city and province is rich in culture, scenery, shopping bargains and is the adventure capital of the region. From here you can go trekking in the nearby mountains which form the foothills the mighty Himalayan range. The sub-tropical jungle-clad headlands have long been the home of an ancient advanced civilisation which reached it's zenith in the 13th century.

Chiang Mai can also be spelled chiangmai, chainmai, chiengmei, changmai, chang mai Spelling: As with most place names in Thailand you will find a variety of transliteration. Chiang Mai is the correct spelling but you will also see variations such as chiangmai, chainmai, chiengmei, changmai or chang mai. BTW:- "Chiang" means city and "Mai" means new. Chiang Mai was called the new city by it's founder King Mengrai.
